Tool Update: AARP’s Livability Index

Home affordability challenges are real for many Americans and even more so for seniors — peak earning years have passed, access to support is increasingly important, and home layouts matter more.

Recently, the AARP’s Public Policy Institute updated its Livability Index, a tool to help people rank communities based on the services and amenities they offer. The index includes categories particularly important for older adults, like ranking housing, in part, according to how many homes can be entered without steps. Other categories included environment, transportation, health, safety, and community engagement.
